Manchester 10K - Sunday 16th May 2010

On Sunday 16th May 2010, 36 members of Barton A C took to the roads of Manchester to compete in the BUPA Great Manchester 10k Run.

A great day for all the runners who were cheered on by their families and club members along the course.

Over 1500 people sponsored our runners and the aim was to raise over £8000 for the Building a Fund For theFuture.

Totals raised will be updated in due course. A big thank you to all our supporters.

Bag Packing Tesco

20 members of Barton AC took part in Bag Packing at Tesco Irlam on the 15th May 2010.

We were able to put a display in the foyer of Tesco  of our New Build Projec and we raised £620.00 towards our Fund.

Barton AC thank all the people of Irlam and the surrounding areas for their contributions

Eleanor Sykes Challenge Weekend

2 young female members of Barton AC,  Rebecca Bravender and Chloe Dawson took part in the Eleanor Sykes Challenge Weekend at Ormside Residential Centre in the Lake District on the 23rd – 25th April 2010. This was organised by the GMFCYP.

It was a Challenge weekend of outdoor activities for girls aged  14 – 16 years from Clubs around the Manchester area.

For the second year  Barton A C came joint first. Well done to Chloe and Rebecca.

Barton AC team up with NHS

On 6th March 2010, Barton AC teamed up with the NHS Salford Health Improvement Team to promote Healthy Lifestyle and Activities to members of the Eccles, Winton and Barton Communities.

The event took part at Fit City Eccles with a 20 minute demonstration showcasing indoor rowing with Barton AC's John Lightfoot (61 yrs)  Ken Keigher (71 yrs) and Derek Craynor (81 yrs) all rowing for 5 minutes each.

There was a weight lifting demonstration by Liam and a boxing demonstration led by Barry, with four young Barton AC's members assisting  - Chris, Ali, John, and Cameron.

The event was supported by the Mayor of Salford, Councillor Lightup, a firm believer in the excellent work done by Barton AC.

Barton A.C creates new gym facility

The story starts with an email to Barton AC from Andy Hamill, the Deputy Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Federation of Clubs for Young People.

He mentioned the possible availability of gym equipment at the former Police Training College at Bruche Warrington. Tep Landscape surveyors were looking for a voluntary body who'd make good use of the equipment.

On visiting the site, Barton AC agreed to take all the equipment enabling the creation of a new facility at their gym.

Vice Chairman Malcolm Moncrieff organized moving the equipment from Warrington and installaton into the gym at Barton AC.

English Indoor Rowing Championships 2010

On Sunday 21st February, Barton AC's Brian O'Neil competed in the 50-59 age category in the English Indoor Rowing Championships.

Brian won in a personal best time of 6.38 minutes - only 0.3 of a second off the British Record in the age group.

He was well supported by his family and fellow members of Barton AC.

Barton coach Paul Toole added 'Brian will break the British record at the British Championships later in the year.'

Bag packing at Sainsburys - 20th Feb 2010

Forget about the punch bag and pick up a shopping bag...


On Saturday, over 20 volunteers young and old descended on Sainsburys and packed shopping bags for customers, raising £947.23 in the process.

So a huge thank you to all involved, £947.23 is a fantastic amount raised towards our Building a Fund for the Future.

Elvis Night at Patricroft Club

Thanks to everyone who made it down to our 'Elvis Night' on Friday 12th February -
the latest
Barton AC fundraising event, this time held at Patricroft Club.

The night was a huge success - Elvis was in fine form and the crowd were cheering for more
at the end. 

More importantly,  over £1000 was raised for the Building a Fund for the Future campaign.

So thank you all for your generosity.
